Amara — a name meaning "grace".
An Adire kimono robe where two craft traditions meet: the fluid silhouette of the Japanese kimono and the hand-dyed Adire textile of Abeokuta, Nigeria rendered in hand-dyed Adire textile from Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Why Amara
- Textile: authentic Adire fabric, hand-dyed in Abeokuta
- Heritage: Yoruba indigo tradition, slow-fashion craftsmanship
- Silhouette: open-front kimono robe, fluid drape
- Designed by: L'atelier KaAy, Canada
Editions
- Shea — Ivory — ivory and black Adire, named after the shea tree of the Sahel
- Hibiscus — Fuchsia — vivid fuchsia with black hand-dyed motifs, named after the flower
- Zobo — Plum — deeper plum-pink with fine stripes, named after the Nigerian hibiscus tea
- Moringa — Forest Green — deep forest green with cream motifs, named after the African "miracle tree"
Care
Hand-wash cold with mild soap. No tumble-dry. Iron inside-out on medium heat. Expect slight dye release during the first washes — a natural characteristic of hand-dyed textiles that stabilizes with use.
L'atelier KaAy
A slow fashion house dedicated to carrying forward Yoruba textile heritage. Ships from Canada.
Each piece may show subtle variations in motif and shade — a signature of hand-dyed work.
